Ask Oracle Gets Report-Aware Queries, SuiteFlow Draft Generation, and Expanded File Upload Support

NetSuite 2026.2 monthly updates add report-by-ID/URL querying, document upload for 12 file types (requires File Cabinet access), effort-level controls, and new core skills including ns-workflow-manipulation which generates SuiteFlow workflow drafts from natural language.

Ask Oracle — NetSuite's AI assistant — received rolling monthly updates during the 2026.2 cycle (August and September). These are UI-layer changes with no direct SuiteScript or REST API impact, but several touch areas that admins and developers need to understand: report access control, File Cabinet permissions, and automated SuiteFlow workflow creation.

Note: Ask Oracle is still in a phased rollout. It may not be available in your account yet, and must be explicitly enabled by an administrator.

What changed — September 2026

Report-Aware Queries by URL or ID

Ask Oracle can now consume a specific saved report as query context. Previously you could reference a report by name; now you can also pass:

  • A full report URL (e.g., https://1234567.app.netsuite.com/next/report/230)
  • A report internal ID (e.g., report 325)
  • The @ReportName shorthand
  • The Add context (+) picker in the prompt bar

Responses include a link to the source report and a CSV export download link. Access is gated by the user's role — Ask Oracle enforces the same permissions that govern direct report access.

Improved Prompt Context and Chat Recovery

The prompt-building flow now lets you add context, select a skill, or pick an AI agent before submitting — and browsing those options no longer clears your draft prompt, selected context, or attachments. Chat sessions are restored automatically within 15 minutes of closing; between 15–60 minutes you can choose to resume from history; after 60 minutes a new chat starts.

New Core Skills (September)

  • Inventory exceptions review — flags common inventory exceptions, recommends corrective actions
  • Inventory movement insights — analyzes demand/supply balance across locations
  • Narrative insights records — summarizes individual NetSuite records into factual narratives
  • Narrative insights reports — summarizes eligible legacy reports into factual narratives
  • Supply chain persona based responses — read-only supply chain analysis tailored to audience and decision timeframe

What changed — August 2026

Document Upload (12 File Types)

Users can now attach a document and query its contents. Supported types: PNG, JPG, JPEG, PDF, TXT, CSV, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX. One document per chat turn. This feature requires:

  • Administrator enablement per role
  • Upload access to the File Cabinet for the user's role

Effort Level Selection

A new effort control lets users set auto (default), low, medium, high, or maximum before submitting a prompt. This influences how much processing Ask Oracle applies to the response.

Job Details Panel

When Ask Oracle breaks a request into multiple tasks, the task menu (top-right of the panel) now exposes each job's reasoning and outcome before combining results into the final response.

New Core Skills (August)

  • ns-fulfillment-performance-insights — analyzes Item Fulfillment timing (picking, packing, shipping) to identify bottlenecks
  • ns-inventory-balance-viewer — real-time inventory levels filtered by user-specified criteria
  • ns-inventory-impact-review — reviews and explains inventory impact of transactions
  • ns-item-creation-assistant — opens the Item Creation Assistant from an uploaded catalogue for extraction and review
  • ns-pricing-configuration-review — read-only review of pricing setup: item prices, price levels, customer pricing, quantity pricing
  • ns-workflow-manipulation — creates basic, event-based, single-state SuiteFlow workflow drafts from natural language requests

The ns-workflow-manipulation skill is notable: it can generate SuiteFlow workflows from plain-text descriptions. The release notes say "basic, event-based, single-state" drafts — so expect limited complexity. It is unclear whether these are created as draft workflows or immediately deployed; verify in a sandbox before relying on this in production.

What to do

  1. Administrators: Decide whether to enable Ask Oracle and which roles should have access. Document upload requires File Cabinet upload permissions — audit your role configurations if you plan to enable it.
  2. Report owners: Be aware that any saved report a user can already access can now be queried via Ask Oracle by URL or internal ID. No new permission surface is exposed, but the ease of interrogating report data increases. Review role-level report access if this is a concern.
  3. Workflow developers: Test the ns-workflow-manipulation skill in a sandbox. Determine whether generated SuiteFlow drafts meet your naming conventions and standards before allowing broad role access. The skill is limited to single-state, event-based workflows — complex multi-state or scheduled workflows still require manual creation.
  4. No script or integration migration required. These changes are confined to the Ask Oracle UI. There are no SuiteScript API, REST, or SOAP changes associated with this release note.
