New IFRS 18 Income Statement Layout in Financial Report Builder
NetSuite adds a preconfigured IFRS 18 financial statement layout with Operating, Investing, Financing, Income Taxes, and Discontinued Operations sections. Admins must manually classify accounts into each section using filters in the Financial Report Builder.
What changed
NetSuite now ships an IFRS18 Standard Income Statement Layout for use with supported Income Statement reports. IFRS 18 replaces IAS 1 requirements for presenting and disclosing information in financial statements and is mandatory for annual reporting periods beginning on or after January 1, 2027.
The new layout organizes income and expense accounts into five predefined sections:
- Operating — revenue, COGS, salaries, rent, advertising, etc.
- Investing — dividend income, interest from investments, gains on securities
- Financing — interest expense on borrowings, lease interest, amortization of debt issuance costs
- Income taxes — current and deferred tax expense/income
- Discontinued operations — gains/losses from discontinued operations
The layout includes subtotal rows that roll up each section per the IFRS 18 presentation structure. A formula row can be added to display Gross Profit within the Operating section, provided you first configure separate rows for revenue and cost of sales.
Important caveats
- NetSuite does not auto-classify accounts. All account-to-section mapping is manual. Your organization determines the appropriate IFRS 18 category for each account based on its activities, accounting policies, and reporting requirements.
- Only income and expense accounts are valid in this layout. Balance-sheet accounts are not supported.
- The sections ship empty — nothing will appear until you add filters.
What to do
- Confirm with your finance/accounting team which accounts map to each IFRS 18 section. This is an accounting-policy decision, not a system default.
- Navigate to an Income Statement report that has the IFRS18 Standard Income Statement Layout assigned (see Financial Reports: Row Layout Assignment Page for assignment details).
- Click Customize, then select IFRS18 Standard Income Statement Layout from the Layout list on the Edit Layout page.
- Click Edit Layout and add filters (e.g., Account Name) to each of the five sections to pull in the correct accounts.
- If you need a Gross Profit subtotal, add a formula row in the Operating section after configuring separate revenue and cost-of-sales rows.
- Click Save and validate the output against your expected IFRS 18 presentation.
Notes
This feature has no SuiteScript, REST, or SOAP API surface — it is purely a Financial Report Builder configuration. There are no new records, fields, or script triggers associated with this layout. Automated report generation via N/render or saved-search-based financials is unaffected; this layout applies only to reports built through the Financial Report Builder UI.
If your organization currently uses a custom layout modeled on IAS 1 presentation categories, plan a migration path to the new IFRS 18 layout before your first reporting period starting on or after January 1, 2027.
