Mexico Complementary Features SuiteApp: Banxico Exchange Rate Integration

The Mexico Complementary Features SuiteApp now supports automated currency exchange rate imports from Banco de México (Banxico) via their API, requiring Secrets management for token storage and a deployed scheduled script.

What changed

The Mexico Complementary Features SuiteApp adds an integration with Banco de México (Banxico) to automatically import currency exchange rates into NetSuite. Imported rates express foreign currencies in terms of Mexican pesos (MXN), so this applies to subsidiaries whose base currency is MXN. NetSuite will use these rates on transactions denominated in non-MXN currencies.

Under the hood, this integration relies on:

  • Banxico's public exchange-rate API (requires registration to obtain a base URL and bearer token).
  • NetSuite's Secrets Management framework — the Banxico API token must be stored as an API secret with a defined scriptId. This is the same mechanism used by other external-API integrations (see N/https.createSecureString and the Secrets Management SuiteApp).
  • A scheduled script deployment (bundled with the SuiteApp) that calls the Banxico endpoint and writes exchange rate records.

Prerequisites

  1. Enable the Multiple Currencies feature (Setup > Company > Enable Features > Company tab).
  2. Create currency records for MXN and every foreign currency you want to import rates for (Lists > Accounting > Currencies > New).
  3. Register with Banxico to obtain an API base URL and authentication token. Oracle's documentation does not specify the exact Banxico endpoint — verify at Banxico's developer portal (www.banxico.org.mx).
  4. Create an API secret in NetSuite using the Banxico token. Record the scriptId you assign to the secret — the import script references it at runtime.

What to do

  1. Install or update the Mexico Complementary Features SuiteApp if you have not already. Confirm it is the version that includes the Banxico integration bundle.
  2. Store the Banxico token as a secret. Navigate to Setup > Company > API Secrets (or use the Secrets Management SuiteApp). Create a new secret, paste the Banxico token, and assign a meaningful scriptId (e.g., custsecret_banxico_token).
  3. Configure the integration. Follow Oracle's setup topics: map each currency you want to import, and point the configuration to your secret's scriptId.
  4. Deploy the Banxico Exchange Rate Import script. The SuiteApp bundles a scheduled script — set the deployment schedule (e.g., daily) and assign to the correct role/subsidiary context.
  5. Verify imported rates. After the first execution, check Lists > Accounting > Currency Exchange Rates to confirm rates were written for the expected currency pairs and effective dates.

Caveats

  • Oracle's documentation is light on specifics. It does not name the script's scriptId, the exact Banxico API endpoint, or how rate conflicts are handled if you already have manually entered rates for the same currency pair and date. Test in Sandbox first.
  • Rates are one-directional — foreign currency to MXN. If your base currency is USD and you also operate a Mexican subsidiary, confirm that NetSuite derives the inverse rate correctly or whether you need to configure triangulation.
  • The Secrets Management framework has its own SuiteApp dependency. Ensure it is installed and that the role running the scheduled script has the Secret Management permission.
