Intelligent Close Manager Adds AI-Generated Close-Process Summaries

What changed

The Intelligent Close Manager portlet now exposes a Generate Insights button. Clicking it opens an Intelligent Close Summary dialog that returns an AI-generated narrative covering:

• Overall insights — close progress and task-coverage analysis.
• A/R insights — accounts-receivable close-activity status.
• A/P insights — accounts-payable close-activity status.

The feature is governed by the Enable Narrative Insights preference on the AI Preferences page. This preference is enabled by default, meaning the button will appear for users who have access to the portlet unless an administrator explicitly disables it.

Caveats

Oracle's own disclaimer applies: the AI-generated content may contain errors or inaccuracies. The summary should be cross-referenced against the underlying close-manager tasks, reports, and records before any action is taken. No SuiteScript or REST/SOAP API surface is documented for programmatic access to these insights — the feature is UI-only as described.

What to do

1. Navigate to Setup > Company > AI Preferences (or search for "AI Preferences" in the global search) and confirm whether Enable Narrative Insights is set as desired for your environment. Because it defaults to on, organizations that restrict AI feature usage should disable it proactively.
2. If you use role-level restrictions around the Intelligent Close Manager portlet, verify that the new Generate Insights action respects your existing permission model. Oracle's notes do not detail a separate permission — contact NetSuite Support if you need granular control.
3. Inform accounting teams and close managers that the generated summaries are advisory, not authoritative. Validate all insights against source transactions and task records before acting on them.

Gaps in the source

The release note does not specify which NetSuite version introduced this feature, nor does it document any SuiteScript hooks, custom-record extensions, or REST endpoints for the insight data. There is no information on whether the AI model or prompt can be customized, or whether generated insights are persisted (e.g., as a record or log entry). If audit trail of generated summaries is a requirement, confirm storage behavior with NetSuite Support.
