Narrative Insights Now Tracks Free-Tier Usage by Type

NetSuite exposes a per-account usage table for Narrative Insights on the AI Preferences page, breaking consumption into four metered types (Case Summary, Pricing, C360, General) with a monthly free quota that resets automatically.

What changed

Narrative Insights — NetSuite's AI-generated summaries — now ships with a visible usage-metering UI. A new Narrative Insights subtab on the AI Preferences page (Setup > Company > AI > AI Preferences) surfaces a table tracking free-tier consumption per account per month.

Usage types

Each type is metered independently with its own monthly free quota:

  • Case Summary — insights generated against Case records (Support module).
  • Pricing — insights generated against Inventory Item records.
  • C360 — insights generated against Customer 360 records (CRM).
  • General — all other Narrative Insights not covered by the above categories.

Table columns

  • Month — calendar month and year of usage.
  • Usage Limit — free narrative insights available for that type that month.
  • Used Quantity — count of successfully generated insights only; failed attempts are not counted.
  • Type — one of the four categories above.

Behavioral notes

  • The table is empty ("No records to show") until at least one insight is successfully generated.
  • Months with zero usage are omitted entirely.
  • The usage limit for a given type only appears once that type has at least one successful generation.
  • Each type gets its own row — if you use three types in a month, three rows appear.

Unlimited usage via OCI

The free pool is capped. For unlimited Narrative Insights, you must provision an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) account with Oracle Generative AI service and configure OCI credentials inside NetSuite. See Oracle's Configuring OCI Credentials for AI documentation for the setup procedure. The release notes do not specify the exact free-tier limits or pricing for OCI overages — verify these with your Oracle account team.

What to do

  1. Navigate to Setup > Company > AI > AI Preferences > Narrative Insights subtab to review your current free-tier limits and consumption.
  2. If you have scripted or workflow-driven processes that trigger Narrative Insights generation (e.g., via user-event scripts that open Case or Inventory Item forms), audit how frequently they fire — each successful generation counts against the quota.
  3. If your account is approaching the free cap or you need predictable, unlimited throughput, begin the OCI credential setup: provision an OCI tenancy, enable Oracle Generative AI service, and follow the Configuring OCI Credentials for AI guide to link it to NetSuite.
  4. For accounts with multiple subsidiaries or heavy CRM/support usage, monitor the Case Summary and C360 rows closely — these are the most likely to exhaust the free pool first.

Note: Oracle does not disclose the exact monthly free-tier limit in this documentation. Check the usage table directly or contact Oracle support to confirm the cap for your account tier and edition.
